The biannual meeting of the CL2-CE Road Maintenance Organization met June 10, 2017 at the Surf City Fire Department in Surf City, NC. In attendance were board members Carl Mounts, Steve Hanchey, Kenny Thrower and Pat Thrower. Others were Jeff Conerly, Donald Smith, Mike Donnally and Bobby Phillips. While enough attended , per the By-Laws to have the meeting, the poor attendance was noted.
President Carl Mounts called the meeting to order.
Secretary Pat Thrower read the minutes from the January 14, 2017 meeting. A motion was made Jeff Conerly to accept the minutes as read and it was seconded by Mike Donnally. A “Profit and Loss” report was handed out to be reviewed. Mike Donnally made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report and Donald Smith Seconded the motion.
New Business
Carl said that Road Committee Chairman, Donald Smith, would be moving soon and would need to be replaced. Since there were no volunteers to assume that role, Carl said he would take it over until a new chairman is available.
Carl said we will have 4-5 loads of gravel hauled in to use on the roads. Since we had a compliant from a property owner on Creek Dr. regarding the gravel on that road, the property owners on Creek Dr. will be polled as to whether or not they want to have any gravel spread there. Only paying members will be polled.
More ditches will be cleaned before additional gravel is added. Equipment may need to be rented and an operator identified.
Due to the amount of traffic and the number of cars speeding through our neighborhood, Carl said more speed bumps will be added. Jeff said he updates the website weekly giving the number of vehicles on the roads. One solution discussed was to close off the road to July traffic.
Carl Said the road committee and any volunteers would start patching the paved road on June 24th weather permitting.
Other Discussion
Jeff would like to include in the next billing an insert asking to please include an email address with their payment. He said he would write the insert.
Jeff also gave an update of the meetings with DOT engineers and others. So far there is not any funding or priority coming our way. He will still actively explore other avenues with the state legislature. He will keep us updated,
Respectfully Submitted,
Pat Thrower
